Since childhood Dr. John Campbell has always wanted to be a doctor. His life was saved by a team of doctors as a child, and out of gratitude he has had a passion to serve others. After graduating from medical school at the University of Wisconsin, he did his internal medicine residency at Blodgett and Butterworth Hospitals, now Spectrum Health. He then opened his own medical clinic and became board certified in internal medicine.

During the early days of his practice, Dr. Campbell also served as medical director of several nursing homes in the Grand Rapids area and began treating patients with alcohol, opioid, and other drug problems. He was one of the first physicians in Grand Rapids to become board certified in addiction medicine. His passion has been to help patients regain their lives as he sees patients in his outpatient clinic and as medical director of area detox and residential drug treatment programs. If you asked Dr. Campbell today, he would enthusiastically tell you, “I’d do it all over again. I love what I do!”

Today, Dr. Campbell has three independent clinics—in Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, and Greenville, where he employs other physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Medical services have expanded to include telemed video and phone visits which allow patients the convenience of seeing their medical providers anywhere.
